first experiments with Inkling

My Wacom Inkling finally arrived today! Of course, I couldn't resist trying it out, so I drew a really quick doodle and used the Inkling on it. The results are, well... decidedly mixed, but I'm quite excited to do some more when I actually have time and am not hurrying through everything.

The image above is a scan of the original sketch; the bottom is what the Inkling picked up. I suspect the first panel and the lines didn't come up (as well as parts of the third panel) because those were the first things I drew, and like all ball-point pens, the ink took a while to come out. Instead of going back and tracing over that, though, I just plowed ahead and kept going... after all, I wanted to see what would happen.

Also, at some point, the receiver got dislodged (my own fault, I forgot to leave enough space at the side of the page to clip it on properly), which I think is why the images aren't lined up properly.

In conclusion: so I guess the ink has to actually get on the page for the receiver to pick it up (you can't just go through the motions), and you need to clip the receiver on good and securely. I am, however, quite pleased with how clean the lines came out, which means this might turn out to be everything I hoped for. Can't wait until the next time I have time to play with this, I'm just so excited!

100 Pictures Challenge Theme #71 - Obsession. The Inkling has been a major obsession for me ever since they announced it in August, so it seemed appropriate. The paper looks a bit grungy because I accidentally left my sketchbook out in the rain one day, and this is one of the pages that got wet.
